The nursing staff is the back bone of the hospital. Nurses are the main health care providers from the beginning to the end of a patient's stay in the hospital. Nurses not only provide care to mothers and newborns, but they also educate the mothers regarding personal hygiene, diet, vaccinations, family planning, handling of the new-born, the importance of breast feeding explaining in detail the advantages of this practice. During baby baths they teach mothers how to handle the new-born, maintenance of body temperature and eye and cord care. Nurses are very conscious about infection control and they stress upon the patients to follow the rules of infection control to avoid hassle for themselves and their new-born. They support consultants and RMOs round the clock to provide care and meet the patient's need. Continuous medical education sessions are organized regularly. We also send our nursing staff to AKUH and other hospitals for concerned workshops, seminars and training.
