The Hospital's Outpatient Consultant Clinics are open daily from 0800 to 2100hrs. Specialist services available include:
The Department of Oncology provides services in surgical and medical oncology. Its staff includes two of the best-known oncologists in these fields. Approximately 10,000 out-patients, 1400 in-patients and 1600 day-care patients benefit from its services each year. About 1500 surgeries and 1000 chemotherapies are conducted annually.
Besides offering surgical and medical oncology services, the department is associated with the radiation oncology departments at the Tata Memorial Hospital and the Lady Ratan Tata Institute, to provide comprehensive cancer care to its patients.
The latest addition to the Oncology Service is its own 14-bed ward. Designed with the special needs of the cancer patient in mind, the architecture of the ward maximizes the use of natural daylight and ventilation, and accommodates the need of patients to relax in privacy with family and friends.
The Medical Oncology service has been active for about 15 years. The service has outpatient clinic, day care chemotherapy/blood comment therapy, minor procedures (marrow studies, intrathecals) and in-patient care for chemotherapy. Solid tumour chemotherapy has always been a speciality.
The service focuses on haematological malignancies. Investigations, management and follow up of patients suffering from leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma (LLM) are very specialized areas. The Prince Aly Khan Hospital intends to take a leadership role in these areas in coming years.
Patients with LLM are being enrolled to receive highly specialized therapy like intensive chemotherapy for acute myeloid and lymphoid leukaemia's, imatinib for chronic myeloid leukaemia, monoclonal antibody therapy for NHL and bortezomib (velcade) for relapsed/ refractory myeloma. Patients are also coming in for counselling and follow up of blood and marrow transplantation (BMT). The hospital is strongly considering starting a BMT/HSCT program shortly.
EECP is a non-surgical, non-invasive treatment for certain cases of coronary artery disease and congestive cardiac failure. It is eminently suitable for patients who continue to have symptoms even after maximal surgical and medical intervention, or who are unfit for surgery due to other complicating conditions. It is also ideal for patients who do not prefer surgical treatment. The treatment is carried out on a comfortable out-patient basis.
This centre provides comprehensive infertility services for females and males, including intra-uterine insemination (IUI), in-vitro fertilization (IVF), and intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Egg cryo-preservation facilities are also available. A team approach brings together specialists from gynaecology, andrology, gynaecological endoscopy, sonography and counselling. Facilities are available for complete patient work-up, including examination, semen and other sample collection ultrasonography, laparoscopy and hysteroscopy.
Associated with the IVF Centre (see above), this facility offers all gynaecological endoscopic procedures. It has special expertise in the endoscopic treatment of conditions contributing to infertility.
The Clinic is equipped with an auto-refractometer, keratometer, phacoemulsifier, fundus camera, vitrectomy equipment and lasers.
This new Centre is well equipped to treat gastro-intestinal diseases. It is managed by qualified staff and led by a GI specialist.
The Unit is for post surgical patients requiring high dependency but not intensive care and is a short-term post-operative area for emergency surgery cases before patients are transferred to general wards.
The Complex has three theatres equipped for sophisticated surgical procedures including joint replacement, spine, neurological, laproscopic (key hole) and cancer surgeries. Additional facilities include a "C" arm for intra-operative X-ray monitoring and a carbon dioxide laser machine used in cancer surgery.
The Hospital's Day Care unit offers day surgery and medical care including chemotherapy for cancer patients. Its extra corporal shockwave lithotripsy machine is used for non-invasive removal of kidney stones.
The unit operates five dialysis machines.
