Diagnostic Services

Pathology Department

The Hospital has a state-of-the-art laboratory whose mission is to provide timely and accurate diagnosis. The department has ultra-modern equipment used to run a variety of procedures covering all routine and some specialised tests, 24 hours a day, with results provided in the shortest possible time. The presence of the pathologist, one of only three in Western Kenya, ensures the professionalism of the department. The department has a tele-pathology link with Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Highly specialised investigations including those for hormones, immuno-assays and drugs analysis are referred to the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi. All routine and emergency laboratory investigations are conducted promptly and under controlled conditions within specified time frames.

The laboratory conducts its own Internal Quality Assurance programmes in each section on a daily basis to ensure the accuracy of its tests.

External quality control is run in collaboration with the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi and International Quality Control programmes. The laboratory is currently pursuing the ISO 15189 standard of accreditation.

Radiology Services

The Hospital features a state-of-the-art Radiology Department staffed by a highly qualified full-time radiologist (one of only three in Western Kenya) and radiographers, as well as support staff, who assist clinicians in making timely diagnoses and decisions on patient care.
